Character Interview Blogfest!

I've decided to jump on the blogfest bandwagon and try my hand at hosting one! I don't know if this one has been done before, but I thought it would make for a lot of fun.

So please, if you can and you're interested, do blog or tweet about this or tell people about it. The more, the merrier!

The Character Interview Blogfest
(!!!)

Many of us have experience with characters who whisper in our heads late at night, or characters who remain resolutely silent and stubborn when you need them to tell you what's going to happen next in your story. Some of us may even have sat down with a cup of tea or coffee, and interviewed our characters.

So that's what we're going to do.

Pick any one of your characters, and interview them. Then post that interview on your blog. It can be funny, it can be serious and enlightening, it can be deep, it can be completely frustrating if your character's being difficult. Either way, I think it could be a lot of fun to do (and to read). Not to mention it's a great character exercise!

Try to limit your interviews to about 500-700 words.

The post date is Tuesday the 15th of June, which is exactly four weeks away.

How to enter-

Comment on this post, letting me know you're wanting to enter.

Then just sign up using the sheet in the sidebar!

And that's it!

Once again, I do hope you'll participate, and please do let people know about it!

  1. Why so short notice? I didn't get manuy participants until about two weeks after I'd announced it. You need time for the word to get out. Might you reconsider?

  2. how's that? we both commented on each others blogs at the same time! ha!

  3. I'll join. : j

    This sounds like fun.
I'll have to get it out before the end of the week... But I can do that.

  4. Haha brilliant timing there!

I see your point. I put that date in because I'm going away for a while the weekend after and I thought it might be a good idea to get it done before I did. But as these things obviously take time, it might be better to set a date for after I'm back!

    Thanks for pointing this out!

  5. Updated!

Alesa, I've just changed the date, so you don't have to get it out this week!

  6. I posted your 'fest on my Blogfests-page and yes, I'd like to join in, too! Find me at http://tessasblurb.blogspot.com

  7. Great! This way I can focus on packing and finishing under the Gables. : j
I'll write the piece when I get back, or scribble it in a notebook while I'm away (yay scribbling!).

  8. Excellent! I'm in, and I'll post about it within the week. :)

  9. I would highly suggest you check out my "How to host a blogfest" post (and Lilah's too linked within)

and urge you to add a self-signup sheet because doing this by hand is a PITA and prone to error.
You'll get way more signups this way.

  10. lapetus999: I have actually read your post, and it was wonderfully useful! Thank you for that!

I just decided not to use a self-signup sheet because, while doing it myself is prone to error (though I'll do my best), I thought it would be a great way for me to find/discover new blogs and familiarize myself with the writers before the actual blogfest.

I do hope you'll still consider participating :)

  11. Are you going to produce your own participants list?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think I will probably participate.

  13. No. *sighs* Never mind my previous comment. In my excitement and the general mayhem of this week, I've turned into a massive silly. Just realized exactly what creating the list would involve and how easily I could screw it up.

So, I've changed it. There's now a self-signup sheet in the sidebar, so could those of who you have commented here already please sign up? I'm sorry for the chaos!

    Thanks for the help!

    *goes off to hide face*

  14. I suspect you could have pulled off doing it by hand, but it would have been more work than it's worth. Besides you can duplicate the advantages you would have gotten going through a signup sheet. So it's all good.

I for one, don't mind a bit of chaos from a wayward mind.

    No worries.
    Party on, Sangu. ;j

  15. I'll be there, Sangu. Now to decide who to interview and if I'll survive it. Ever see what happened to the always unseen interviewer in the last episode of the American Zen/Crime drama LIFE? Roland

  16. Ack. I just announced I was out of the blogfest business. But this one sounds so awesome!

Not sure if I'll participate, but I'll link you on my sidebar, in any case :)

  17. i wanna join! this sounds like fun, the only problem i have is which character to interview...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks, Alesa!

Roland, can't say that I have seen it, but it sounds like it wouldn't end well for the interviewer. Ah, the dangers we writers face!

Thank you, Tara, and I do hope you'll decide to participate in the end!

Skippy, I'm trying to decide the same thing. Nice character or difficult character? *sighs* What a dilemma! Oh, and there's a signup sheet in the sidebar if you want to join in!

  19. i'll do this when i have a character. and a blog that i contribute too. hmmm.

  31. I'm in, too, and I'm excited. This'll be fun, I'm sure. :D

    ReplyDelete
  32. Great idea! I'm pretty sure I know what character I'll interview, but that's always subject to change. Oh, crap, now I have to think of actual questions.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I found this blogfest at a great time! I'm actually in Character Development on one of my WIPs and was about to start a character interview! Count me in! Thanks, Sangu! Awesome idea!

  35. I only just read about this, but it sounds fun!

  36. I love how the Universe works. Roland D. Yeomans dropped by my blog just last week and now we follow each other, so I found this fun blogfest today. I was planning on posting an interview of sorts tomorrow on the Bloodlegger's blog with one of our main characters, and my writing partner already did one last week with our other main character. It all just fits together so nicely. Count us in.

  47. All the entries were awesome! I liked how most of our interviews went out of hand (namely, mine). LOL

I enjoyed doing this, and I'm glad to have found more writers' blogs to follow. ;)
