Happy Halloween!

It's another blog hop day - a big welcome to any new visitors! - and this time it's for the Halloween weekend! Hosted by Jeremy Bates, this blogfest is all about favourite monsters and costumes - a full list of other monster-talkers is up on Jeremy's blog here.

Normally picking a favourite anything is hard for me, because I usually have so many, but this time it's a no-brainer. My favourite monster book is Frankenstein.

Apart from the fact that I think it's an amazing, deliciously creepy concept and such a sad story, this novel will always have a special place in my heart because it's an enormous part of the inspiration behind my first book, THE LOST GIRL. Without Mary Shelley and Frankenstein, I'm not sure I'd have been able to write a book about stitching a person together from scratch. And without Frankenstein's Creature, I'm not sure I could have made my stitched-together echoes quite as real.

So there's what I'm celebrating this weekend! Who's your favourite monster?

  4. A couple of years ago, I subbed a class who had read Frankenstein. They were watching the latest movie version on the book.

I'd have to say Voldemort. And I think he counts as a monster by the end of book 4.

  5. My favorite monster is Dracula since I was born in his land and no, I haven't been bitten by a vampire.
Went to visit one of his castles last summer :)

  8. Robert De Niro's FRANKENSTEIN was one of my favourite versions! Read the book as a kid -- should reread it at some point!

  9. Definitely "The Creature from the Black Lagoon." I'd like to watch that movie again someday, but only in the daylight.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm a big fan of YA novels because I buy for my grand-niece and grand-nephews but always read them first. :)

  12. Hello from the Halloween Hop! I admit, I've never read Frankenstein! But you've peaked my interest. :) Congrats on your upcoming book release! I'm with you on the hard-time-picking-favorites thing. My favorite monster is...Grover! Lol he's not scary at all, but so adorable. He was also my favorite character on Sesame Street as a kid. :-p

  13. Happy Halloween Hop, Sangu - good to *meet* you ;)
My pick for scariest book is "The Uninvited" by William Johnstone. I just reviewed it at Paranormal Wastelands if you want to read about it:

  19. I love Frankenstein and have always wondered what it would have been like to be there with Byron and the Shelleys when this tale was written. But I have to say that my favorite monster has always been the werewolf. I don't know what it is, but I just love those hairy beasts. :) Thank you for the follow on my blog and I look forward to many return visits here. You have a wonderful site. :)
